Hedrick Homes - Showcase of Custom Homes

We recently had the opportunity to go into a joint venture with my mom & dad, in taking over their Sunset Cottage vacation rental at Geneva on the Lake. We tore down the existing cottage and rebuilt a brand new one in its place. Tate designed and drew the cottage up, and had to do a lot of tweaking to get it to fit on the lot in order to conform to current zoning regulations. This fantastic little place has all you’d ever need – awesome views of the lake, spacious galley kitchen, cathedral ceiling, 3 full baths, walkout basement, and cozy loft. We also were able to add some really cool architectural details by doing the standing seam metal roof and board and batten concrete siding. Also, being down on the Lake, we were very concerned with energy efficiency, so the construction consists of 2 x 6 walls and ˝” dowboard installed on the exterior perimeter, along with Andersen 400 series windows throughout. We also managed to reuse a large amount of the original beaded paneling from the old cottage on the inside of the new one – on the custom barn doors Tate & our son Laramie built, the back of the bar in the kitchen, the sunroom and in the basement. Tate also built a bookshelf for the loft out of the original woodwork. It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun! If anyone wants to rent it out for a vacation or weekend getaway, be sure to check it out at www.TheSunsetCottage.com
